250 years ago humans vanished from Earth for no apparent reason.
One day A.H. there are blackouts all over the world, even in the largest cities. This is soon followed by radiation poisoning from nuclear fuel plants, where the spent fuel cells have evaporated the water in their cooling pools and the steam pressure causes the buildings to explode. Millions of small animals die, but large mammals are, for the most part, fine. It takes three months for the radiation to completely dissapear, and fortunately there is only one side effect.
Wolves, formally known as Canis lupus, have been seriously affected by the toxins with very interesting results. Those who lived near the affected areas developed super-powers, much like those seen in the fictional stories of human comic books. Along with these strange powers came a greatly increased intelligence and heightened senses; the offspring of these wolves came with markings in all colours of the rainbow and various mutations so that they could hardly lay claim to the name "wolf" anymore.
Inevitably the wolves soon discover the art of war, and they divide into two packs, each led by one of two brothers. They've been fighting for twenty long years; though they seem to have forgotten what they are fighting about. Their blood has been diluted and their powers greatly weakened, now it's just a matter of tradition and survival. The wolves are tearing apart Mar and each other, and it's only a matter of time before they go too far.
This is the aftermath of the end of the world...
